Spotify A Must For iPhone Music Fans

Spotify
If like me you have an iPhone and you like your music, then you may want to consider subscribing to Spotify, a music streaming service with desktop applications available for Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X.

Now although Spotify offer a free option, the Premium option is the one you should take a look at as it allows you to store your playlists ‘offline’ on your device. Usually you would stream your playlists or any music file via the Spotify software on your internet enabled computer but with the offline option, you can take your playlists with you for offline use. This means you don’t have to buy as many albums as you may normally would.

The Premium option allows you to stream as many tunes as you want each month and there’s no advertising. Free users are limited to 20 hours each month and have advertising. Free users also don’t have the ‘offline’ feature.

Spotify Premium is £9.99-a-month in the UK. There’s the free option (called Open) as already mentioned and another option called ‘Unlimited’ at £4.99 (no ads but no offline play).

I live in Spain and I’ve signed up for the Premium option at €9.99-a-month. I’ve wiped all my albums from my iPhone to free up storage space for video content and now I just add songs using the search feature from within Spotify either online via my computer or via the Spotify app on my iPhone. And with millions of tracks available, I’m yet to never find something I was looking for.

As a member you can also post your favourite tracks to Facebook and Twitter and if you have friends on Spotify, you can send tracks to them and even browse their music libraries on their computer and play their tracks that are available on the Spofity catalogue.

I’m promoting Spotify because I think it will be of interest to people who aren’t aware of their services. I’m not an affiliate and there’s nothing in it for myself.

Facebook dislike button scam

Facebook users are being targeted by a scam that offers them a chance to install a ‘dislike’ button on the popular social networking website.

If you install the rogue application it will be granted access to your profile page and your account will then post spam messages to your friends who will assume that they’re from you.

The dislike button scam prompts people to download an application with the message: “Download the official DISLIKE button now.”

When users click on the link it prompts them to install a rogue application, which does not function as a dislike button at all. Once you have given it permission to access your profile, it updates your Facebook page with a link and a message saying: “I just got the dislike button, so now I can dislike all of your dumb posts lol!!!”

If you receive such an invitation ignore it. Any messages that you receive on Facebook saying ‘OMG, shocking video’ or ‘OMG have you seen this!!!!’ are usually scams aimed at compromising your account. Anything that asks you to do something to gain access to view photos or videos are also scams. So too are posts claiming that you can receive a free iPhone, iPad, PlayStation etc.

Should you ever accept any of these things in error, you are advised to change your password. You can delete applications and revoke permissions in your account settings.

If it sounds too good to be true that’s because it is.

Tesco launches best SIM only deal

Tesco has launched the UK’s cheapest SIM only deal aimed at teenagers and young adults that entitles users to unlimited texts and 100 minutes of free calls for just £6-a-month.

Research by the supermarket giant found that almost a third of 16 to 24-year-olds spend more than £30 per month on their mobile phone bills with the majority of their spend on text messaging.

Lance Batchelor, chief executive of Tesco mobile and telecoms divisions, said: “This deal is ideal for a younger market or any text addict out there who doesn’t want to have to fork out a large amount each month but still wants to use their mobile to their hearts content.

“We’ve seen a big increase in sim-only mobile tariffs as savvy spenders hang on to their handsets and shop around for the best tariffs available.”

Asus Hope Eee Pad Will Be iPad Killer

EepadTaiwanese computer maker Asus have unveiled what they are hoping will be an ‘iPad killer’.

The Eee Pad – which uses an Intel CULV Core 2 Duo processor and has a touch-sensitive capacitive screen – goes on sale early next year and it will be powered by Microsoft’s Windows 7 and unlike the iPad, it will have an integrated webcam and Flash video technology.

The Eee Pad uses an Intel CULV Core 2 Duo processor and a touch-sensitive capacitive screen. It can be used as a multimedia player, e-reader, Web-browser, or, with the help of a keyboard docking station, a full-featured PC.

Asus will be releasing two versions of the Eee Pad. The EP101TC will come with a 10-inch screen and the EP121 will ship with a 12-inch screen. Asus claims both systems will deliver at least 10 hours of battery life.

CEO of Asus Jerry Shen said: “We envision a different kind of usage scenario. You can be both a premier professional and a housewife.”

The Eee Pad is expected to priced up at around £375 (US $399) .

WARNING: Facebook Users Hit By Troj/iframe-ET Worm

Another ‘clickjacking worm’ is quickly spreading through Facebook. To prevent problems, do not click on any messages on the Facebook website that include messages such as:

  • The Prom Dress That Got This Girl Suspended From School
  • LOL This girl gets OWNED after a POLICE OFFICER reads her STATUS MESSAGE
  • This man takes a picture of himself EVERYDAY for 8 YEARS!!
  • This Girl Has An Interesting Way Of Eating A Banana (banana), Check It Out!

Upon clicking on one of these messages which have been ‘liked’ by others, you will be presented with a blank white page that says ‘Click here to continue.’ When you do, that will then post the message without your permission to your Facebook wall.

The blank pages with the ‘Click here to continue’ messages are infected with the Troj/iframe-ET worm.

I suggest you check your Facebook wall and delete any such messages that may be present. If you see the same messages on your friend’s walls, send them a message and point them to this article. It would also be advisable to check your info sections of your profile to make sure no links have been added. Your system may be safe but you should perform a spyware scan and virus check for obvious reasons. Ad-Aware anti-spyware software is free to download and easy to use.
